It's all about giving thanks. Let me explain a little more.
A long time ago, in the year 1620, some people resisted the English church because there was unfair rules so these people sailed across the Atlantic Ocean and landed at this place called Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts. The trip lasted 66 days, I believe. Anyways, they made this trip for religious freedom. They were called "protestants" because they protested against the English church. Thank goodness for them, or else I might not be who I am today. Anyways, they arrived in winter, and it was soooooo harsh that many people died out of the 200+ people there. BUT!!! A Native American showed them how to plant crops. Amazingly, this Native American could speak English! To make a long story short, they had a big feast and everybody was happy. THE END (that was not a very good explanation)
But how did Thanksgiving become what it is today? Well, in the 1800s, some person begged the president Abe Lincoln to make Thanksgiving a national holiday, so the president made it the last Thursday of November. A few decades later, another president moved it to the second to last Thursday to lengthen the Christmas shopping season. Finally, it got moved to the fourth Thursday of every November by some other guy. THE END (that was a bad explanation)
