The record on SDA is 2:19.xx for Red. It was done in segments, I don't know about yours.

Oh? For some reason I thought the record was around 2:15 or so. Either way, I'm sure 2:15 or lower is possible, my run was far from perfect. I did mine on a cartridge so I have no video of it... maybe I'll try out a rom and see if I can get another good run in plus a video of it (but with a rom Im sure ill be tempted to use the "rewind" button when things dont go my way... thats not allowed is it? )

Well only if you are doing a TAS run

I don't see why you can't use the rewind button. It's just like people making a speedrun in parts so if it goes wrong they can do it again.

Alright, I've begun recording a video run. So far I am at 11 minutes in-game and I have just defeated Brock.

over a year later, i checked tasvideos.org to find out that due to a ton of new interesting glitches, the new TAS record for this game is about 1:18 and the real-time record a little under 1:30. That said, I've started a new run and hope to beat my record, I know I won't come close to the new record but at the very least I want sub 2 hours. So far I am about an hour in, the hard part now...

You know, with all these glitches sub 2 is so easy. I remember when my 1:56 run actually meant something. Only one glitch was exploitable and it didn't really save time.
On another note the record without glitches (not the TAS run) should be around 1:5x using the Japanese version of the game for faster text (which is how I got as low as 1:56). The lowest I know of other than my score is some Japanese guy who got 1:59.
