I drew a diagram of my current setup: Now, I can access the VCR menu, so that is clearly hooked up good and everything, but I cannot get the gamecube to display any picture or sound, whether the VCR is on or off. I don't think it has to do with channel, because they should both be hooked up to the same channel and since I can access the VCR menu on the current channel, I should be able to see the game on the TV as well =/. Everything is plugged in of course, but are there any connections I am missing, or does anybody have any ideas at all as to how to get this to work? Thanks to anybody that can help me, I really want to start making videos but I cant get past this step.

Ok. If your VCR is like mine, it has two AV hookups on the back. One says "IN," one says "OUT." Plug your Nintendo Gamecube (or video game console of your choice) into the IN wires. Your video will usually show up on AV, L1 or L2. (you can access the L channels by pressing 001 or 002 on your remote control) In the back it's usually L 1 (front is L2... just so I don't have to get back to this later. As yo uknow, color coding is important. The genearl pattern for this is Yellow, then white. Yellow being left or down, then white being top or right. Here you can see my Nintendo Wii hooked up on the right side (IN) and two extra wires on the left. (OUT) These extra wires are a dual AV hookup. You hook the other side into this magical device called Dazzle. Dazzle will go into the USB port. Now.. Antoher issue you may have is getting to these channels. Sometimes in your TV's menu (not the VCR) there are some AV spots. I can't help here since I haven't had a remote for my television in over four years. Anyways. The rest is all about you sticking a blank tape (no picture... <_<) in the VCR and hitting record. Dazzle + windows movie maker (I'll teach you how to use that after you figure this part out) will do the rest when you rewind the tape and decide to hit play.

I think LDA covered it, but after putting the TV on the video channel you often also has to put the VCR into it's video (or input) channel as well. It differs a little what it is called, but L1 and L2 (as LDA also mentioned ) are common. If it aren't those then experiement a little with the remote and you'll figure it out. And of course remember to plug in the scarts in the right sockets (in an out).... And finally be sure you're actually using an input scart for your GC otherwise it won't work. You can see wether it is input or output on the side

Care to explain which type of WinTV you have? There are a bunch of different types.

I don't think i have either... Care to explain why you want to have it plugged into the computer too? I just tape it on my VCR and after that plug the VCR into my computer... I expect to get an extra VCR for this soon so i can just take out the tape and put it into the other VCR.

i dont want to plug anything into the computer yet, i am going to record onto the vcr , then i can just hook the vcr up to the computer and transfer the recorded material... so right now the computer doesnt really matter.
Im gonna go try some of the things LDA said, I'll be back soon and report if Im able to do anything.

no luck =/ my tv has 3 main inputs, AV2, AV1, and component, but the only one that seems to work is AV2... even when I am on the AV1 channel and if the AV1 is connected, there is no effect...

Then use AV2? The only problem i can think of is still that your scart isn't an input one. That or you just need to change the settings on your VCR. That is really the only 2 problems i can imagine. =/ When you say you can't get it to display the game, then it still doesn't display the VCR menu either, right? Otherwise it has to be because you have to change channel on the VCR... Is the VCR exactly the same as the one on your picture btw? To me it seems like you can push down part of the left side of the front to get to some extra sockets where there should be another input. Maybe you could try that

it displays the vcr menu but not the game, even when both are turned on... and this is when it is on AV2, otherwise I cant bring up anything...
btw, what is a skart?
And no, I just found those pictures on the internet... i checked my vcr for hidden compartments but there doesnt appeare to be any...
On the back of my vcr though, there is a switch for channel 3/channel 4... Ive always had it set to 3, maybe i need to experiment when its set to 4?

Well i don't even know if it is called scart is the video and audio input... The little "thing" that you plug the colored wires into before plugging it into the scart socket is the thing i'm thinking about. If it is an output one then it won't disply the game on the TV. Anyhow... If it displays the VCR menu then you're probably just not on the right channel on the VCR... Talking from experience with one of my own VCR's you have to program the channels (even if you don't have any) before being able to play games through it. Is the menu like that for you now? So you can't change channel or anything? If that's the case then you just need to pick language, let it start programming the channels, turn it off and turn it on and voila!

Make sure your VCR is on, and press the channel button on the VCR till you find LN1 or whatever it's called. Make sure all the plugs are right on everything, and try changing the TV to either AV video, or channel 3.

THANK YOU SO MUCH MIMO AND STELZIG! I needed to change the channel on the VCR, not the TV like I had been doing. Now it works great =)
I still need to buy a blank tape (where can I buy one? Or can I just take a tape of an old movie and rewrite it?) and then I need to install the winTV to my computer and I will FINALLY join the world of gaming videos =)

Blank tapes can be bought just about anywhere that sells consumer electronics, Best Buy, Target, CostCo, Wal-Mart, Circuit City, eBay, etc. I don't know about old movies, though. I've never tried it. They may be write protected. BTW, WinTV sucks IMO, at least for web-resolution videos. WMM FTW!

I don't think they are. Considering all you have to do is cover that little hole with tape. If you want to see this hole, look on the bottom side of the tape. It's on the left side.

I'm pretty sure i told you to change the channel on the VCR in every single post i made r1k xD Anyway good thing you figured it out. Getting a blank tape shouldn't be a problem. It can be bought pretty much anywhere.

I bought a couple of blank tapes today at wal-mart, so all I have left to do is go inside the computer and install the wintv. I just hope I dont break my computer while doing so =x
